The financial news website, Finance Markets, provides a number of life insurance reviews as part of its growing coverage of a range of financial products:

Nationwide especially comes up well, with a glowing summary:

Nationwide provides the security and expertise that comes with being one of the largest insurers around.

They offer great customer care, plenty of coverage, and their quotes are generally quite competitive.

So if you do need home insurance of any type, then they are definitely worth consideration.

The surprise is that Aviva didn’t rate so highly, but it does appear that a number of complaints have been raised about terminal cover in general, as this also impacts the Direct Line review.

So to summarise the review summaries, leading life insurers, such as Nationwide, Avivia, and Legal & General are normally very good companies to take out life insurance with - however, do watch out that you have proper terminal illness protection built in, and are aware of its limitations.
